The 6th AMY(2007-2012) Workshop will be held in Kunming,Yunan province,China Nov.30- Dec.1,2009
The “Asian Monsoon Years (AMY 2007-2012)” Program is calling for its sixth workshop, AMY-6, which will be held at Kunming, China from November 30 to December 1, 2009. The Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP) Chinese Academy of Science will be the host and local organizer for this meeting. Since the AMY program has been endorsed by the Joint Scientific Committee (JSC) of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) as well as the WCRP core projects CLIVAR ( Climate Variability and Predictability)  and GEWEX (Global Energy and Water Cycle Experiments), the AMY-6 is also co-organized by CLIVAR/AAMP and GEWEX/MAHASRI.
On behalf of the AMY Science Steering Committee (SSC), we invite you to participate in the Sixth AMY workshop. This workshop will be an important milestone, since it reaches the half way for this 6-year project, and since the field observation campaigns have already finished their primary observation. Keep in mind that the AMY is an integrated observation and modeling initiative that investigates the variability of the Asian monsoon with three cross-cutting themes: the ocean-land-atmosphere interaction, aerosol-monsoon interaction, and the multi-scale interaction. The program aims to improve physical parameterization schemes of numerical models, develop data assimilation for the coupled ocean-atmosphere-land system, and better understand the monsoon predictability and improve monsoon prediction on intraseasonal-to-interannual time scales. These objectives are fulfilled through coordination of the ongoing and planned field experiments and modeling projects in Asian monsoon regions.
In this forthcoming workshop, we plan to discuss the following major issues: 1) Review and produce a interim summary reports for the 2008-2009 AMY field experiments; all leaders of each project under the AMY will be invited and expected to report the progress/achievement as well as future activity plan. 2) Review policy and mechanism for data collection and dissemination, and discuss AMY Re-analysis implementation plan. For your information, the MRI/JMA is now planning to conduct the AMY Re-analysis, and data input for this reanalysis will be one of the key successes for the AMY. 3) Coordinate numerical model experiments. 4) Discussion of collaboration with CLIVAR, GEWEX subprograms and coordination with CEOP Monsoon, WCRP Pan-Monsoon activity, WWRP Monsoon Panel, and THORPEX/YOTC.

we are looking forward to your participance.
